The NICU team consists of a senior PL3 resident, two pediatric interns, and often an anesthesia intern. The NICU is located at Meriter Hospital.
This rotation consists of two four-week blocks during your first year. You will manage preemies requiring critical care, “feeders and growers,” and term children with medical problems such as gastroschisis and esophageal atresia. Your neonatal resuscitation skills will be refined as you attend deliveries and C-sections of both term and premature newborns. PL1s are considered first in line to perform intubations, central lines, blood draws, and circumcisions.
The PL3 has one four-week block in the NICU and provides orientation, guidance, and supervision to the interns.
