International Health

Many of our pediatric residents are interested in international health. We are fortunate that our medical school has expanded its emphasis on public health, and is emphasizing the need for health professionals to gain a deeper awareness of culture, language, and society. The Department of Pediatrics believes that international health experiences are an ideal way to increase this awareness and advance the goals of the school of medicine and public health.

International Health

Dr. Jim Conway, one of our pediatric infectious disease specialists, is a member of the University of Wisconsin’s Center for Global Health (CGH). This Center brings together physicians, nurses, pharmacists, veterinarians, public health practitioners, and experts from other fields to work together to address global health issues. The Center also sponsors a monthly seminar series on global health and pediatric residents are encouraged to attend.

The Department of Pediatrics supports a portion of the salary for up to two residents from each of the PL-2 and PL-3 classes in order to allow them to spend up to one month overseas. Residents may pair up with faculty members who are doing international work or can develop their own educational experience.
