Application Information
We welcome your interest in our program. We accept applications via the ERAS system only.
Application Requirements
- All candidates must participate in the National Resident Matching Program.
- All candidates must have taken and present USMLE Step 1 scores, and Step 2 CK and CS scores when available.
- All applicants must have completed at least one year’s clinical training in a LCME (accredited US or Canadian medical school) or ACGME approved program. This year must include hands-on patient care, for which the student/resident has taken an active role demonstrating responsibility for patient care.
- To be considered for selection, eligible candidates must be either a US citizen, carry a J-1 visa, or have permanent resident status (green card).
- Applications must include a Dean's letter and 3-4 letters of recommendation. One letter of recommendation needs to be from the Pediatric Department Chair.
- If you have particular interests (e.g. cardiology, adolescent medicine, etc.), we will try to tailor your interviews to your area of interest.
The application deadline for 2008-09 is November 1, 2008.

The Interview
There will be a casual dinner with the residents the night before your interview, usually at a resident's home. For many applicants, this dinner is the highlight of their visit to our program, and we encourage you to arrange your travel plans so you have time to participate. The hosting resident will contact you via e-mail about a week prior to your visit with dinner details and will also arrange transportation for the dinner. Our interview day begins at 7:30am and ends around 3:00pm. During your visit, you will:
- Attend a resident conference
- Meet with our Department Chair and Residency Directors
- Meet with our Chief Resident
- Meet with members of our faculty
- Tour the new American Family Children's Hospital
- Have lunch with our residents
Hotel Accommodations
Applicants are provided overnight accommodations for the night prior to the interview day. These hotel arrangements are handled by the Residency Program Manager. A shuttle from the hotel to the hospital is available the morning of your interview.
Free shuttle service is also available between the Dane County Regional Airport and the hotel.
